Our Eco Policy

The Marine Environment
At Cornish Sea Tours we believe passionately about conserving the marine environment and minimising our impact on this incredible ecosystem and the animals and plants that live in it. Matthew is a trained Zoologist and Simon a trained Ecologist and so both understand the fragile nature of the marine environment and the need to use it in a sustainable manner in order preserve it for the future. Polzeath and its surrounding water is a designated Voluntary Marine Conservation Area (VMCA) due to its high level of biodiversity and relatively pristine condition. We are privileged to be able to use this area for our boat tours and hope we do everything we can to operate in an environmentally conscientious way. We employ the following strategies in order to do this:

  • We use a single low horsepower four stroke engine in order to reduce fuel/oil consumption and particulate emissions.
  • We carry a fuel/oil spill kit on board at all times.
  • We do not carry out engine servicing at sea.
  • We do not use toxic anti-fouling paint.

We are also accredited members of WISE an organisation who train providers to minimise disturbance to the large mammals and fish who call the sea their home. As such we may restrict the viewing of different animals to certain distances and for certain durations of time in order to minimise modification of their natural behaviours. Your skipper would be happy to discuss our procedures and the reasons for them.

All our policies are under constant review and your opinions and feedback are very welcome.
